Application procedure

General

If students of our faculty are interested in a guest stay at one of our partner universities, the registration or application goes through us. The host university arranges accommodation (or gives advice for own activities) and the ERASMUS representative there supports the visitors with words and deeds. As far as possible, the study achievements at this university will be credited in Heidelberg.
The stay should, of course, provide interesting insights into life and studies in the host country, but should not prolong the studies; it should therefore fit into the standard period of study.

In the meantime, all partner universities - as well as our faculty - have introduced the so-called ECTS system for the evaluation of study achievements at the host university.

IMPORTANT: Every student is expected to have knowledge of the language of instruction at the partner university. The ERASMUS program is not for learning the language, but for studying. In Sweden, Denmark and Finland the lectures are partly in English, nevertheless, the attendance of language courses of the local language is obligatory in order to prepare for the trip. Language skills can usually also be expanded through courses at the host university in question during the study visit.

German ERASMUS students receive a monthly allowance for living expenses (most recently a total of approximately Euro 350 per month). Students with BAFÖG entitlement should additionally apply for "Auslands-BAFÖG". The required proof of participation in the ERASMUS exchange program will be sent to those concerned by the International Office in July.

The application deadline is Feb 5.  Selection takes place by the beginning of the summer semester, the guest stay then follows in the fall/winter semester of the year in question or in the spring/summer semester of the following year.

Good study and examination results are required and, in addition to the number of semesters, are decisive for the allocation of places.

If your application is successful, you will fill out a declaration of acceptance with us, in which you bindingly declare that you accept the ERASMUS study place and the regulations of the ERASMUS program. We will then register you with the host university and the International Office. However, you will also need to register online with the university.

IMPORTANT: Every student is expected to show initiative in applying and choosing courses at the partner university.
