Teaching Certificate & Habilitation
Anyone who plans to apply for an academic position, here in Heidelberg or at another university, should be able to document teaching experience. This can be done by means of a 'Teaching Certificate' (Nachweis Lehrveranstaltungen) that the Faculty provides if you have accomplished a certain amount of teaching. The specific requirements can be found in the following form:
The habilitation is the highest qualification within the academic system in Germany. Although the habilitation is no longer a strict requirement when applying for professorship, the faculty offers the possibility to obtain this qualification and with it the title ‘Privatdozent’. The Habilitation Assembly (Habilitationskonferenz) consists of all professors and lecturers (Privatdozenten) of the Faculty of Bioscience and decides about awarding the habilitation.
The major parts of the procedure that have to be absolved are:
- Documentation of teaching experience (Teaching Certificate)
- Habilitations thesis (can be cumulative)
- Scientific presentation
- Teaching presentation
The exact rules and regulations with respect to the procedure can be found in the Habilitationsordnung and the Merkblatt zum Habilitationsverfahren (in German, see below).
The Vice-Dean responsible for the procedure is Prof. Alexis Maizel
